Sedation and Analgesia Guideline, Tape Available

Anesthesiologists pressured by JCAHO and hospital administrators to provide policies and procedures for their non-anesthesiologist colleagues who utilize sedation and analgesia (S&A) now have recognized and authoritative resources to assist them. The 1995 ASA House of Delegates adopted a practice guideline for S&A. These guidelines are available from ASA for $2.00 and may be ordered by phone (847-825-5586) or e-mail ([email protected]). This practice guideline was the basis for the currently available poster and brochure which has been mailed to every ASA member, an APSF project generously supported by Roche Laboratories. By the time this issue of the Newsletter reaches you, you should already have received your poster and brochure.

“Sedation and Analgesia,” the latest ASA Safety Video is also ready for your viewing. This safety video, as all others, is available from your representative of Glaxo Wellcome, the company whose generous support makes these videos possible. These three educational tools should prove to be valuable assets in providing programs for our non-anesthesiologist colleagues which will then lead to better compliance with JCAHO standards and recommendations.
