Readers Comment on Sedation Signs

Michael A. Less, M.D.

To the Editor

Anyone who has used Versed for sedation is certain to recognize the ‘poof’ Dr. Karen Shea refers to in her letter, ‘Is Patient Adequately Sedated?,’ in the Spring 1994 APSF Newsletter.

I regret to inform her, however, that for the past several years this sign has been referred to as “Versed lips” by me and my colleagues. I believe “Versed lips” describes this sign of adequate sedation much more clearly than another new eponym.
