Sem Lampotang and colleagues from the University of Florida have published The Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation Anesthesia Machine Workbook, which was developed with support and sponsorship by the APSF. This workbook is intended to be used along with the Virtual Anesthesia Machine and both are available without charge at the VAM website (http://www.anest.ufl.edu/vam). Dr. Robert Gaiser, Associate Professor of Anesthesiology, Pharmacology, Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Pennsylvania reviewed this publication in the September Issue of Anesthesia and Analgesia (Anesth Analg 2003;97:929). Dr. Gaiser stated that, "As program director, I endorse this manual with the accompanying simulation. In fact, our program plans to incorporate it in the education of our residents." He continued, “The manual fills a void in the field of anesthesia.” Dr. Lempotang and his coworkers are to again to be commended for this important contribution to patient safety and education.
