Suzanne Wright is a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) since 2003 and a tenured Associate Professor and Chair of the School of Nursing at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia since 2021. Dr. Wright is the former Chair of the Department of Nurse Anesthesia at Virginia Commonwealth University until 2021 where she and her colleagues developed a patient safety focused portal for reporting near miss and adverse events during the perioperative period and where she was the professor of record for Human Factors and Patient Safety in the graduate Doctor of Nurse Anesthesia Practice Program. She recently earned the Certified Professional in Patient Safety (CPPS) designation from the Institute of Healthcare Improvement and is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator (CHSE). Her research is focused on managing critical events in anesthesia, studying specifically situation awareness, the use of cognitive aids, the transfer of care, and patient safety education in the health professions.
