Sherif Zaafran, MD

Zaafran serves as the President of the Texas Medical Board appointed by Governor Abbott in 2017. He was recently reappointed and confirmed by the Texas Senate to serve through 2027.
He also serves on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Federation of State Medical Boards.
Sherif Zaafran is a Physician Anesthesiologist and a partner with US Anesthesia Partners. Currently within USAP he serves as the Chair of their National Legislative Committee as well as Vice-Chair of the Clinical Governance Board for USAP Gulf Coast.
Within organized medicine, Zaafran serves as a delegate in the American Society of Anesthesiologists along with serving on the Committee on Government Affairs and the Committee on Economics. He is also the past chair of the ASA ad-hoc Committee on Out of Network Payment. He is a delegate for the Texas Medical Association, Texas Society of Anesthesiologists, and a delegate to the American Medical Association.
Zaafran studied biochemistry at The University of Texas at Austin and finished medical school and residency at The University of Texas McGovern Medical School in Houston.
