Ruth Landau, M.D. is the Virginia Apgar Professor of Anesthesiology at the Columbia University Medical Center where she is the Chief of Obstetric Anesthesia and the Director of the Center for Precision Medicine in the Department of Anesthesiology.
She serves on the Board of Directors of the Society of Obstetric Anesthesia and Perinatology (SOAP), with a dedication to improve mothers and babies’ safety through interdisciplinary consensus statements. Over the last 20 years, she has been passionately investigating the influence of genetics on pregnancy-related diseases and childbirth and believes that alleviating women’s pain during labor and enhancing their recovery after delivery requires tailored approaches. Her current focus is to implement sustainable solutions to curb the opioid crisis and promote judicious opioid prescription.
When not travelling around the world, Landau may be found in New York with her husband and daughter.
