Richard D. Urman, MD, MBA, FASA is Associate Professor of Anesthesia at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School. He also serves as the Director of the interdisciplinary Center for Perioperative Research and is the Director of the Perioperative Medicine Fellowship. He is the Co-Chair of the APSF Grant Alumni Academy, currently serves as the Chair of the ASA Abstract Subcommittee on Patient Safety and Practice Management, and AQI Committees on Closed Claims and Data Use. His research interests include healthcare services research, patient safety, and novel anesthetic drugs. Among many other grants, he was previously funded by APSF (including the ASA President’s/ Ellison C. Pierce Jr MD Merit Awards) to study the effectiveness of emergency manuals during operating room crises. Urman was the Morgan-Zinsser Endowed Fellow in Medical Education at Harvard Medical School Academy, and is the recent recipient of the ASA/SEA Distinguished Educator in Anesthesiology Award.
