Randy H. Steadman, MD, MS
Randy Steadman, MD, MS, was appointed Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care at Houston Methodist Hospital in 2020. In 2021 he was appointed Associate Executive Director of MITIE, the Methodist Institute for Technology, Innovation & Education. Prior to his move to Houston, he served in the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at UCLA Health, most recently as Professor and Vice Chair for Education. He was the founding director of the UCLA Simulation Center, providing experiential training for undergraduate and graduate trainees, and the continuing professional development community since 1996. As Chair of the American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) Editorial Board on Simulation-Based Training he helped develop ASA’s endorsement criteria for simulation programs and built a national network of over 50 simulation programs over the last decade. He is currently working with the American College of Surgeons on collaborative simulation activities to enhance quality and patient safety. His clinical work has focused on the perioperative care of patients undergoing liver and abdominal organ transplantation. His publications and research activities have targeted liver transplantation, simulation-based training and assessment, and the development of serious games for medical training. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and the American Board of Anesthesiology.
