Research interests: The application of human factors engineering methods to the design and evaluation of healthcare tools and processes, with the goal of promoting patient safety. Research projects have included (1) a study of anesthesia providers’ prospective memory errors in the operating room, (2) analysis of information use in intensive care to support better organization of electronic health data, (3) the standardization of patient handovers from the operating room to the intensive care unit, (4) usability evaluation of various clinical informatics applications, and (5) the use of simulation to compare remote telemetry monitoring methods.
