Kelly McQueen, MD, MPH, FASA, FISS, holds the Ralph M. Waters Distinguished Chair and is a Professor of Anesthesiology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health. With a career spanning three decades, she has made significant contributions to anesthesiology and global health, authoring over 80 peer-reviewed publications and speaking at more than 30 international conferences. Her leadership in global patient safety was recognized in 2017 with the American Society of Anesthesiologists’ Nicholas M. Greene, MD, Award for Outstanding Humanitarian Contribution. Prior to her current role, McQueen served as Director of Global Health and Programs in the Department of Anesthesiology at Vanderbilt University until 2019. She continues to advance patient safety and outcomes through her work with the Multicenter Perioperative Outcomes Group, where she was a board member 2022-25, and through initiatives like the Pre-Anesthesia Clinic at the University of Wisconsin. Her research now focuses on the effects of social determinants of health on surgical outcomes and perioperative mortality in low- and middle-income countries.
