Annery G. Garcia-Marcinkiewicz, MD, MSCE is an Associate Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine, where she also serves as Associate Chief of Faculty Affairs. She directs AirEQuip, CHOP’s Pediatric Difficult Airway Program, and leads the Pediatric Center for Airway Research (PCAR), building clinical, educational, and research infrastructure dedicated to the safety of children with difficult airways.
A clinical trialist and health services researcher, she serves as CHOP site principal investigator for the 47-institution Pediatric Difficult Intubation (PeDI) Registry and has led a portfolio of multicenter randomized trials in pediatric airway management, including the VISI trial published in The Lancet and its successor studies. Her current work applies machine learning to registry data to develop clinical decision support for pediatric intubation. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, contributed chapters to Gregory’s Textbook of Pediatric Anesthesia, and co-authored the 2024 ESAIC/BJA neonatal airway guidelines.
She is President of Women in Anesthesiology and Vice Chair of the CORE Committee of the Society for Pediatric Anesthesia. Her leadership spans airway safety, faculty development, and health equity, with sustained attention to mentorship and to expanding access to safe perioperative care for children.
