Andrea Vannucci, MD, is Professor and Laura Cheney Endowed Chair in Anesthesia Patient Safety, and Vice Chair for Quality and Safety in the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine at the University of Washington, Seattle. In this role, he leads initiatives to enhance safety, clinical quality, and perioperative patient outcomes.
Born in Milan, Italy, Vannucci earned his medical degree and completed advanced training in Anesthesia and Intensive Care at the University of Milan before relocating to the United States in 2004.
Vannucci’s academic and research efforts center on advancing patient safety through improved monitoring, safer airway management, effective clinical handoffs, and deeper understanding of perioperative complications. His work has shaped best practices in anesthesiology and perioperative medicine and has been widely published in peer‑reviewed journals. He also served as editor of the Washington University Manual of Quality and Patient Safety.
In addition, Vannucci co‑leads the Electronic Medical Record Working Group of the Multicenter Handoff Collaborative—an initiative sponsored by the Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation—dedicated to improving communication and safety during perioperative transitions of care.
