About Us
Founded in 1985, The Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation (APSF) was the first independent multi-disciplinary organization created expressly to help avoid preventable adverse clinical outcomes, especially those related to human error. It’s vision is “that no one shall be harmed by anesthesia care”.
Through it’s highly respected quarterly publication, The APSF Newsletter; patient safety research grants and conferences; and educational and advocacy campaigns, the APSF has helped anesthesiology become a pioneering leader in patient safety.
Patient Guide to Anesthesia and Surgery is APSF’s first patient-focused initiative. Created by APSF’s Patient Engagement Workgroup, the mission of this workgroup is to encourage patients to actively participate in their healthcare and gain a better understanding of how they can minimize surgical risks and complications.
