Steven K. Howard, MD, is the outgoing APSF Chair of the Scientific Evaluation Committee and a member of the Board of Directors. He obtained his undergraduate degree in pharmacology from University of California, Santa Barbara, his MD from the Chicago Medical School, and completed his residency training in anesthesiology at Stanford University in 1991. He is Professor of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain at the VA Palo Alto where he serves as a member of its cardiac anesthesia team. He developed a career long collaboration with his mentor, David Gaba and continues to study safety and performance of health care providers. He is the Co-Director of the Patient Simulation Center of Innovation at the VA Palo Alto – the VA’s first simulation center. He spends his free time with his wife and daughter who enjoy travel, theater, concerts, sporting events, and working out together.
