APSF Grant Program Now Includes EC Pierce Research Award

The Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation is proud to announce that the APSF Scientific Evaluation Committee will designate one of the approved grant applications as the “Ellison C. Pierce Research Award.” This winning grant will receive a monetary award in the amount of $5,000 in addition to the funds requested by the investigator. Grant applications are encouraged for areas of research that include, but are not limited to: new and/or re-evaluation of old technologies for the prevention and diagnosis of mishaps, development of innovative methods for the study of low frequency events, and methods for measurement of cost effectiveness of techniques designed to improve patient safety. The APSF reiterates that grant applications are also solicited for innovative methods of education and training to improve patient safety, specific or thematic development of educational content or methods with application to patient safety, and development or testing of educational content to measure and improve the safe delivery of perioperative anesthetic care. The recipients of APSF research grant awards scheduled to begin January 1, 2003, will be announced at the APSF Board of Directors meeting, Saturday, October 12, 2002, at the Rosen Center Hotel, in Orlando, Florida.
