Pierce and Siker, President and Executive Director, respectively, of APSF visited Glaxo-Wellcome Corporation at their American Headquarters in Research Triangle Park, NC, May 13 and 14, 1997.

Drs. Pierce and Siker and other members of APSF have visited the headquarters of many of our corporate sponsors over a period of many years. The purpose of these visits is to discuss ways in which the Foundation and our corporate sponsors can develop joint ventures which serve the purpose of anesthesia patient safety. Examples of such combined efforts include: the poster and brochure which deal with recommendations for handling parenteral medications used for anesthesia or sedation - a program developed with Zeneca Pharmaceuticals; the poster and brochure developed in conjunction with Roche Laboratories with recommendations for the safe use of sedation and analgesia by nonanesthesiologists; APSF's participation in the interactive CD ROM sponsored by Ohmeda which addresses leadership in anesthesia; Hewlett Packard's support for the start-up of the APSF web site. In this most recent visit, discussions were held with Glaxo-Wellcome executives concerning possible future projects such as expansion of APSF web site information and increasing access to anesthesia simulators, a technology begun with APSF funding in 1989.
