The Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation Scientific Evaluation Committee is pleased to announce the 2007 APSF Grant recipients:
- Greg Stratman, MD
Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Care University of California, San Francisco
Dr. Stratman's grant in the amount of $150,000 entitled, "Effectiveness of three clinically applicable strategies to improve the safety of neonatal anesthesia" was selected for funding. In addition, Dr. Stratman's grant was selected to receive the designation of Ellison C. Pierce, Jr., MD Research Award, in recognition of one of the founders of APSF. This named award carries an additional, unrestricted monetary award in the amount of $5,000.
- Kirk Hogan, MD
Professor of Anesthesiology University of Wisconsin Department of Anesthesiology
Dr. Hogan's application entitled, "Anesthetic and surgical risk factors for Alzheimer's disease in adult children of persons with Alzheimer's disease" in the amount of $150,000, was selected by the APSF Scientific Evaluation Committee for funding. This grant also was designated as the Anesthesia Healthcare Partners (AHP) Award, made possible by a $150,000 grant from Anesthesia Healthcare Partners.
- Karen J. Roetman, MD
Virginia-Mason Medical Center Department of Anesthesiology
Dr. Roetman's application entitled, "Safety of postoperative opioid analgesia in patients with obstructive sleep apnea: what are the risks and how can the risks be safely managed?" in the amount of $150,000, was selected for funding by the APSF Scientific Evaluation Committee. This grant was also designated as the Cardinal Health Foundation Award, made possible by a $150,000 grant from the Cardinal Health Foundation.
- Jenny W. Rudolph, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology Boston University School of Public Health
Dr. Rudolph's application entitled, "Does a standardized electronic protocol for anesthesia handoffs improve information transfer and reduce the potential for adverse events?" was selected by the APSF Scientific Evaluation Committee for funding. Dr. Rudolph's grant support is in the amount of $149,969.
- Jason Slagle, Ph.D.
Assistant Professor of Anesthesiology Vanderbilt University
Dr. Slagle's application entitled, "The Impact of Performance-Shaping Factors on Anesthesia Care Task Distribution, Vigilance, Workload, and Non-Routine Events". was selected by the APSF Scientific Evaluation Committee for funding. Dr. Slagle's grant support is in the amount of $149,965.
