2005 Grant Recipients

The Anesthesia Patient Safety Foundation Scientific Evaluation Committee is pleased to announce the 2005 APSF Grant recipients:

  • Joseph J. Quinlan, MD, Associate Professor, Department of Anesthesiology/CCM, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Pittsburgh, PA. Education and Training Grant titled, "Using Whole Task Human Simulation to Improve the Difficult Airway Management Skills of Practicing Anesthesiologists." This grant is also the recipient of the 2005 "Ellison C. Pierce Award" consisting of an additional, unrestricted award of $5,000.
  • Samsun (Sem) Lampotang, PhD, Associate Professor, Department of Anesthesiology, University of Florida, Gainesville, FL. Education and Training Grant titled, "Development and Evaluation of a Web Simulation and Workbook for the Anesthesia Machine Pre-use Check.
  • Christopher M. Bernards, MD, Virginia Mason Medical Center and Clinical Professor, Department of Anesthesiology, University of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle, WA. Clinical Research Grant titled, "The Respiratory Effects of Opioids in Patients with Documented Obstructive Sleep Apnea."
  • Geordie P. Grant, MD, Associate Professor, Department of Anesthesiology, UMDNJ - New Jersey Medical School, Newark, NJ. Clinical Research Grant titled, "The Effect of Position on Intraocular Pressure and Ocular Perfusion during Prone Spine Surgery."
